Growing up I remember men strong enough that they could carry a dozen guns at once, they could endure the burden of a thousand bullets without slowing. Then for a while my heroes had to suffice with two firearms and a hand-full of grenades. Next they were required to micro-manage their gear, being careful to avoid an arbitrary line which, when crossed, inconvenienced their pace.

We have seen, in a scant period of time, the measure of masculinity fluctuate drastically, constantly redefined, scaled to new environments and modes of engagement. 1,024 MEGABYTES OR 10,000 POUNDS AND NOISE OF MEN THAT CARRY, by Lucas Glenn (b. 1992), presents a static moment of consideration within this continuum, to weigh payloads in the relatable terms of MBs and LBs.

Comprising an armoury of weapons [sourced from games such as Halo, Gears of War, Half Life and Call of Duty], alongside a audio database of corresponding physical exertions, 1,024 MEGABYTES functions between the heroic endeavours of our hyper-masculine avatars and our own limited abilities. At once an archive of digital assets and a commentary on how we have outsourced our bravado to virtual worlds.
