In No False Veils of Time or Space, Okanagan-based Canadian artist Lucas Glenn traces eleven routes of Valve’s 2004 video game Half-Life 2. Each route emanates from Glenn’s apartment, the centre of his gaming, spreading out into the city, creating a spider web. Representing in real space the route and distance travelled by gaming alter ego, the eponymous Gordon Freeman. In each Google Maps route, images from the game are contrasted with real world locations. A snow covered lake versus an aqueduct, back alleys versus train depots, an Eastern European styled city and a depopulated suburban street.
